The semiconductor industry, a regional strategic industry, is in intense development along with Incheon The aim is to create an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry through technology development and industry-academic research Planning to expand to development of future mobility and energy

In line with Incheon’s policy to intensive fostering of semiconductor industry, a regional specialized strategic industry, INHA University established “Advanced Semiconductor Packaging Center.”

INHA Advanced Semiconductor Packaging Center aims to create an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry through technology development in the semiconductor packaging field and industry-academic research capabilities. To promote next-generation post-process industry, the center will promote joint research and development and commercialization of semiconductor packaging professionals, semiconductor post-process and small-scale technology/product development, semiconductor infrastructure and join equipment infrastructure, and semiconductor packaging test and analysis services.

Seventeen professors from eight departments, including machinery, materials, electricity, electronics, and information and communication engineering, will participate as researchers, and operate five specialized departments: packaging-related materials, process design, process equipment, test and reliability, and education. The head of the center will be Kim Joo-hyung, a professor of mechanical engineering, who is the head of the industry-academic cooperation department and is leading industry-academic-related consultative bodies such as the Incheon Semiconductor Forum.

In particular, the center plans to expand future mobility technologies, including Incheon's leading industries such as automobiles, aviation, UAM, and personal aircraft (PAV), and develop technologies related to renewable and clean energy. Currently, there are 1,264 related companies in Incheon, including the world's second and third largest anchor companies in the semiconductor post-process sector, and system semiconductors are playing a leading role in increasing exports. INHA University plans to lead the Incheon-type semiconductor industry related to industry-academic relations by conducting research on major semiconductor businesses in Incheon.

In addition, INHA University is promoting cooperation with IMEC in Europe, Fraunhofer in Germany, and Georgia Institute of Technology in the U.S. to study semiconductor packaging and advanced semiconductors for organic convergence research related to semiconductor packaging technology. President Myeong Woo Cho said, "The research center aims to build a semiconductor innovation foundation in Incheon and western Gyeonggi Province, including the Seoul metropolitan area, and develop into a core institution that can play a leading role on the global stage beyond Korea."
